Itachi died at the age of 21 during the Fourth Great Shinobi War. He had used the power of his Mangekyou Sharingan to cast an eternal Tsukuyomi on the Nine-Tails, but this caused him to be completely drained of chakra. Itachi was able to use the last of his remaining strength to protect Sasuke and Konoha from the Nine-Tails.
